I'm looking for a brush hog that uses a chain instead of a blade. Is there a universal attachment that goes on any type brush hog using chain as a cutter?

Just curious why you want the chains instead of blades? Years ago I had a flail type rear cutter, where the knives swing on two or three chain links from a horizontal drum that was driven from one end by a gearbox v-belt system from the pto. I don't remember the brand , but it did do a nice job till the knives started to dull. It seemed to take lots of power, then soon became a matinence nightmare, the knives dulled quickly and were expensive to replace, you could'nt replace just one because of ballance problems. Finaly I got just a conventional rotary cutter, and yes the knives do get banged up, but theyre much easiere to replace than a bunch of chains. ....

It's those pesky rocks hidden just below the brush tops that have claimed many a blade and shaft. ....

The county road dept. here has a rotary cutter that is mounted on the three pt. of a good sized farm tractor. It has sort of a mechanical arm that the operator can reach from the roadside to any point in the ditch. It must have a real rugged set of knives or possibly it is a chain unit of some kind to be able to stand the strain, as I've seen them cut some mighty rugged brush and almost pulverize it by just lowering the rotary unit down on the tree till it's just a ragged stump. I've never noticed what brand it is, but I've saw a unit simalar to it in the Land Pride catalog. Most likely if anyone has a chain system they probably would, or else could tell you where to look. Hope this helps. ....
